South Dakota painter and sculptor James Van Nuys joined FACES as art director in 2007. He wrote an art column for the Rapid City Journal for 15 years and has since devoted his time to various public art commissions, including the City of Presidents, the 100-ft. Regional Airport mural, the Founding Fathers Black Hills sculpture project, and the police and veterans memorials. In addition to design work, James also serves as FACES associate editor and writes the popular and humorous Learning Curve and FACES Firsts series. His forte is designing pages with a painter’s eye.
